History of Pype Hayes Park

The name of the area derives from a major landowner in Erdington called Henry de Pipe. The estate was originally part of the Manor of Pype. And had been home to the Bagot family from 1630. Between 1881 and 1888 the Bagot's sold 700 acres of land of the estate to the Birmingham Tame and Rea Drainage Board for the creation of the Minworth Works. The rest sold to Birmingham City Council in 1920. And the hall was used for various public social uses.

There is several gardens to the east of Pype Hayes Hall.  A traditional one planted at the turn of the Millennium and a much older garden. There used to be a fountain here, but it had been vandalised and left unrepaired for years.

Pype Hayes Hall

The derelict remains of Pype Hayes Hall is in the park behind fences. It dates from the late 18th / early 19th century. The listing says that it was a stucco refacing of house of an earlier 17th century timber framed house. The hall formerly belonged to the historic county of Warwickshire, before transferring to the new West Midlands county in 1974. The hall is Grade II listed. It was the home of the Bagot family from 1625 to 1920. The hall has been used for a variety of purposes during the 20th Century but has been unused for years. There was plans in 2015 to turn the hall into a hotel with a spa and swimming pool. Although as of late 2018 and early 2019 the hall was still behind fences.
